The
Annual General Meeting was held on the 27th November when it
was revealed that the organisation had completed another very
successful year, through the hard endeavours of the ladies of
the Committee, under the guidance of their chairperson, Miss
Vi Packham. Sufficient funds were raised to enable the Good Companions
to make generous donations to various other organisations within
the Village, and to provide flowers and other comfort gifts to
the sick or bereaved, and to those in particular need.
If by
chance, you are not a member of the Good Companions, may I
urge you, and your family, friends and neighbours, to consider
joining, by contacting Mrs Beryl Woods on 842195. The fee is
only £1
per annum and couldn't be spent on a more deserving organisation,
which has the interests of all age groups within the entire village
at heart. Your support will be much appreciated.
Their next function will be the Senior Citizens' Party, held
at the Village Hall on Sat. 29th Jan 2005 at 3.00pm. All Senior
Citizens
living in Brockham are welcome. Tickets will be distributed and
can also be obtained from Strood Green Post Office and other
shops.
The Good Companions Special Announcement is, that
the next "All
Village Concert" will take place on the 11th & 12th
March 2005. This is a Competitive Event with Trophies to be won,
so please
consider entering your particular organisation, to make this
a "Bumper
Show"! Entry forms will shortly be sent to competing Societies,
and it is hoped there will be an enthusiastic number of entries
for this occasion. "Be sure you take part in this Special
Annual Event. It is great fun"!

The
Good Companions wish to thank everyone who supported and
gave so generously to their ‘Strawberry Tea’ on the 17th
July. Such a pleasant summer’s afternoon and the tranquil
setting of Beryl Wood’s garden encouraged an excellent
number to attend.
Thanks are also due to everyone who patronised
the Good Companions Stall at the Victorian Fair on the Green
during the weekend of
the 10th July. The money raised at both events will help tremendously
in their continuing support for deserving causes within the Village.
Thank you all so much.

Brockham's
All Village Concert has struck gold. Generations of villagers
have taken part in this annual event which this year celebrated
its golden jubilee. The village hall was packed two nights running
for an evening of music, drama and dance linked by master of
ceremonies Simon Budd's own brand of comedy and conjuring.
The
concert is the main fund-raising event for Brockham's Good
Companions, a small band of people who do so much to brighten
the
lives of sick and elderly villagers, and Vi Packham, who leads
the group, has either staged managed or produced all 50 concerts.
Local organisations contribute to the evening's
entertainment and their entries are judged on the last night.
This year the adjudicator was Mrs Audrey Ward from Reigate, and
the trophies were presented by Mrs Jean Farmer assisted by her
grandson Bruce. Jean's parents, Brownie and Alice Wood, gave
the first cup.
The junior trophy was won by the Sunday Club
with a play called The Big Wave. Brockham Evening WI won the
senior
trophy with
Echo for Ladies, while the award for the best presentation
went to the Wednesday Club for The happy hikers. Virginia Rogers-Wheatley
(in Echo for Ladies) received the award for the best senior
individual
performance and Emily Chamberlaine of Steps Second dance group
won the best junior individual award.

The
Annual General Meeting was held on the 22nd November when it was
revealed that the organisation had completed another very successful

Sufficient funds were raised to
enable the Good Companions to make generous donations to various
other organisations within the Village, and to provide flowers
and other comfort gifts to the sick or bereaved, and to those in
particular need. It was very sad, however, to discover that the
membership is now rather low, and a very poor representation for
a village as large as Brockham!
Therefore, if you are not a member,
may I urge you, and your family, friends and neighbours, to consider
joining, by contacting Mrs Beryl Woods on 842195. The fee is only £1.00

50th Annual Event
BROCKHAM GOOD COMPANIONS
is an organisation where a group of very industrious
ladies, work throughout the year, in order to raise
funds for the benefit of all ages, within the village
of Brockham.
Posters
at various points through the year advertise their
extraordinary calendar with:
"Tea, or Coffee Morning", with Hot X Bun, during
the Easter period.
"Coffee Morning" in
the month of May.
"Strawberry Tea" In
July
"
Tea on the Church Lawn" on a summer, Sunday afternoon.
"
The All Village Concert", which is an annual competitive
event in March.
Most
of these functions have a `Bring & Buy
Stall' and usually a raffle. Money raised at these
functions is used to provide flowers or pot-plants
for the Sick
or Bereaved.
A little
acknowledgment for "Milestone
Birthdays" of
the elderly. "Golden Weddings", and pots
of bulbs for the Senior Citizens at Christmastime.
A little financial help for those, perhaps, in desperate
need.
Occasionally help to buy small
equipment for our local surgery. Donations to St. Catherine's
Hospice,
Contributions
to the funds of other local organisations, and a Mammoth
New Year Tea Party with entertainment, in January,
for the elderly within the village.
The membership
fee for this group is only £1
per year and couldn't be spent on a more worthy organisation.
Your help in running the various functions by means
of
donations or raffle gifts or items for their `Sales
Stall' would be greatly appreciated and for further
information,
please phone the Chairperson:- Vi Packham on 01737
- 843730.
