At
a recent meeting the Treasurer reported that £6,000 had
been transferred to the Hospice during the financial year ending
31st March, 2005. Our main income came from our Evening with
the Golden Girls, donations, street collections and the boxes.
A big thank you to all our supporters and a special thank you
to Gill Archer (Strood Green Post Office) who has sent us a
further donation of £1,000, being the proceeds from her
sale of books, making a total of just over £2,000 raised
for the Hospice over the last three years.
Golden Opportunity – Again,
many thanks for the kind donations of unwanted/broken jewellery
received recently. This is an on-going
project and is helping the Hospice with much needed funds.
Stamps – Another very worthwhile project is the collection
of used postage stamps. If anyone would like to help in this
way please give any used postage stamps to Gill Archer at the
Strood Green Post Office or to Marjorie Catterall, “Esterel”,
Brockham Lane, Telephone No: 843604, who trims and sorts the
stamps before they are taken to the Hospice.
Boxes – We
still have some spare Hospice Boxes and if anyone would like
to have a box, please give me or Sheila Dyer (842046)
a ring.
GARDEN FETE AT “LAWNSWOOD” – 12TH JUNE,
2005
Please don’t forget the Fete at “Lawnswood”,
Kiln Lane, Brockham, Carol and Jim Parker’s home, on
12th June, 2005 from 2pm-5pm. All are welcome. This promises
to be
a lovely occasion. There will be the usual stalls plus the
chance to enjoy a cup of tea, and the Apex Jazz Band will
entertain
us during the afternoon. All we need is a nice sunny day,
and we look forward to seeing you.

Our
Tombola at the Village Weekend and the recent Box Hill Fair
raised £405.90 for the Hospice. Many thanks to Carol
and her helpers.
A reminder that the Annual Street Collection
for Brockham, Betchworth and Buckland will be on Friday,
17th September ’04, from
9am to 1pm outside the village shops. We are still desperately
in need of more volunteers to help with this collection and
if you are able to help for just an hour, please give Sheila
Dyer
a ring on 01737 842046.
Golden Opportunity – in their
last Newsletter the Hospice reminded us of the continued appeal
for unwanted or broken jewellery
which so far has raised just over £38,000 for the Hospice.
Broken chains, the single earring, brooches, costume jewellery
and watches can all be converted into funds to enable the Hospice
to continue its work. If anyone has any unwanted items, please
give me a ring – there are pre-paid padded envelopes
available, or you can ring the Hospice direct – Elaine
on 01293 447364. Thank you for your continued support.

A
recent Dorking Street Collection raised £737.00 of which £94.50
was collected by three of our members. The Annual Street
Collection for Brockham, Betchworth and Buckland will be
on Friday, 17th
September 2004, from 9am to 1pm outside the village shops.
We are desperately in need of some more volunteers to help
with this collection and if you are able to help for just
an hour, please give Sheila Dyer a ring on 01737 842046.
Once again
we would like to thank Gill Archer (Strood Green Post Office)
for all her efforts on behalf of the Hospice. As well
as selling second hand books, Gill also collects used postage
stamps and we would also like to thank Mrs Marjorie Catterall
who then sorts and trims the stamps before they are sent on
to the Hospice.

At
our Annual General Meeting held on 18 May 04, the Treasurer
reported that £6,000 had been transferred to the
Hospice during the financial year ending 31 March 2004.
Our main
income came from donations, street collections and the
boxes. A big
thank you to all our supporters.
Sheila Dyer confirmed her intention
to retire from the post of Hon Chairperson, and the Committee
recorded a vote of thanks
for all her hard work. She has done a marvellous job and we
are glad that she is not going to leave us. Although we are
now few
in number it was decided that we would all continue to meet
and work as an informal 3 B’ s Group raising funds for the
Hospice. Ray agreed to continue as our Hon Treasurer and Sheila
said she would be happy to continue to receive donations for
the work of the Hospice.
If anyone would like to join the Committee,
or help in any way, please give me a ring. We are a small friendly
group and you
would be most welcome.

On
the 24th April Mrs. Vivienne Boustred of Brook House, Leigh
held a ‘Compost Open Day’ in her garden, in conjunction
with Mole Valley District Council.
The proceeds from this event
raised approximately £400.00 which Mrs. Boustred very
kindly gave to Brockham, Betchworth and Buckland Committee
to pass on to St. Catherine’s. Three of our Committee
assisted on the day but we must record our grateful thanks
to Mrs. Boustred for her generosity and hard work!

We
are holding our Annual General Meeting on the 18th May,
2004 at 2.30 – venue No. 1 Church Street, Betchworth,
and we shall be delighted to see any of our supporters at this
meeting. Whilst writing I would like to invite anyone who
could give a little of their time to help with fund raising
either
on the Committee (with some fresh ideas) or help at events.
Also we shall need a new Chairman after the A.G.M. as I
am
retiring in this capacity after too many years.
If anyone would like an official ‘collecting box’ in
the 3 B’s area, please contact me on 842046.

We
are holding a Coffee Morning from 10 – 12 a.m. in Brockham
Church Hall on the 6th March – entrance 50p to include
coffee/tea and biscuits. There will be a raffle, a Bring
and Buy table and
cakes. So come and enjoy a leisurely chat with your friends
and help us to raise money for a very worthy cause.
Rather belatedly I am afraid I would like to thank Buckland Church
for giving us half their Christmas collection. They are kind enough
to do this every year. Many thanks!
STOP PRESS
I have just heard this morning that Andy at the Royal Oak, Stonebridge,
Dorking, is going to donate £1.00 to St. Catherine’s
for every meal he serves in March. GREAT NEWS! I mentioned this Pub
in the February Parish News edition.

Now
that Christmas and the New Year celebrations are over I would just
like to put in writing our grateful thanks to some of our loyal
supporters. Each year we receive a donation from Brockham Bonfire
Committee and last December I was thrilled to be given a cheque
for £140.00 from Brockham Brownies – they had collected
this in one evening by being sponsored for various challenges.
The Pharmacy in Brockham tops the ‘boxes’ list by regularly
donating a substantial amount, followed by the Royal Oak at Stonebridge,
Dorking. (Incidentally the food is very good at this Pub too).
The
Dukes’s Head on Brockham Green collected £126.00
in their jar for us and Gill Archer is still doing a wonderful job
selling second-hand books.
Of course, there are a number on anonymous individuals who regularly
give to St. Catherines’s, so to them, the above mentioned and
lots more unmentioned, MANY, MANY THANKS!
