Yes,
we had our 100th call for assistance during the first week
of June, less than six months from our Launch. 70% of requests
have been for lifts to medical appointments, (44 to hospitals
and 26 to the Surgery).
The remaining 30% of calls from our
39 customers were spread between shopping, hairdressers,
dentists, opticians, vet and
social visits.
As you see, the service has been well used and the committee
would like to thank our willing volunteers for all their
help, it is being very gratefully received.
We would welcome
more drivers, so if you could spare an hour or so in a
month, John Duncan (01737 845220), our Volunteer
Co-ordinator, would be delighted to hear from you. You
say when, where, and how often you are prepared to help out.
There are 22 people driving for Wheels 4 U at present,
why
not join
them?

People
have been wondering how Wheels 4 U has been getting on. Well,
things have been going very well. We had 21 jobs in our first
four weeks, (and made 65 'phone calls to arrange them.)
There
is one thing that we do need to bring to your attention. We
are very sorry, but under the scheme we cannot take minor injuries
to Casualty, or bring people home after hospital Day Surgery
unless
the doctor says that the person could travel by public transport.
This is because our drivers are not trained in first aid or nursing
and therefore are not equipped to deal with possible complications
such as shock, fainting or haemorrhage.
We have however had positive
feedback and some very helpful suggestions from 'customers'
that we are following up, so thank you for your
support.
1.Phone
07944 59 17 17 Monday to Friday between 10am
and 12 noon at least 2 days before you need transport
2. Have all your details
ready. Tell the Duty Officer when you need
transport and how long your appointment is likely to
be.
3. The Duty Officer
will phone you back later that day to tell you who will
be collecting you and at what time.
4. Our driver will
give you an envelope to put a donation into, if you wish.
Please seal and return the envelope to the driver who
will pass it on to our Treasurer. Our drivers are not
allowed to handle money.
