Brockham
Green is a beautiful village and its cottages and houses look
a picture, especially in Spring and Autumn. But it is also a
village to be lived in, and is subject to the same environmental
pressures as many other villages. The need to protect what we
have is stronger than ever and the Brockham Green Village Society
is to help provide that protection! The Brockham Green Village Society (BGVS) was
formed in 1944 with the objective of looking after the beauty and
amenities of the neighbourhood. The aims of the BGVS today are the same today
as then:
- to monitor pressures arising from building
developments and from road traffic through the village, and any
other developments likely to impact on the character of the village;
- to keep residents informed, and to use
its influence to help maintain the future of the village and
its amenities, and to see that developments are in keeping with
the local environment.
The Committee meets every other month to discuss
current issues and events, which may have an effect on the village,
and to liaise with the Parish Council and other groups to ensure
that the best interests of the village are maintained. Recent examples of such matters include:
- The recovery of Village Pond (Balchins
Pond, Middle Street) via an hands on work party
- Oil and Gas Exploration at the Felton
Farm site
- Local flooding and general state of
the roads and footpaths
- Brockham School pavement widening scheme
- Proposed housing development to the
East of Brockham Lane
Details about the Committee activities are reported
in the Parish Magazine.
The BGVS will always
welcome your ideas on how best the Committee might address the
needs of the village. If you
are not already a member of the BGVS, why not consider joining?
Our Annual Subscription is only £2 per person.
If you have any questions, ideas, or issues
which you would like to be raised at the BGVS meetings, please
contact
Mr John Duncan, Membership Secretary, on 01737 845220, or any
