As
some people know, we had been approached by Cancer Research UK
regarding a possible Cycle for Life 2004 event taking place in
and around the village later this year. Unfortunately this will
not now take place pending a full review of the viability of such
events. This will cover health and safety, insurance and logistics,
all of which take a greater toll on the cost of running such events.
Population of Brockham in 2001 of 2,798
We have received some details about the village
as a result of the census of 2001. One or two facts that may be
of interest are that, at that time the village had a population
of 2,798 and 1,152 households. 1,362 males and 1,436 females. Further
details can be obtained from Mole Valley District Council offices.
Some of this information will be of use when we develop our Parish
Plan. More about this will appear in the following months.
Passports for Horses
We have
received a letter from DEFRA regarding passports for horses.
It states that every owner will need to obtain
a passport for their horse by 30th June 2004. We assume most
owners will be aware of this but if not, please contact either
myself
or Celia Plumb to obtain a copy of this letter.
Drain clearance in time for wet weather
Although
little has happened since the last meeting, it is hoped that
the various drains around the village that cause so many problems
during wet weather will be cleared properly during February.
Bus
shelter lights
We should like
to offer a special thanks to those residents who provided the
Christmas lights around the
bus shelter at the Avenue and brightened
up the scene. Especially since they had to replace them after the
first set was vandalised.
Christmas Corner Carolling
Twenty people, representing five different
organisations in the village, turned up to sing carols at Christmas
Corner on Christmas
Eve. Everybody
appeared to enjoy themselves and the five went away a little
better off financially.
