This amenity land and children's playground in
Strood Green, which is owned and maintained by the Parish Council,
is
renowned for its water-table in wintertime being an inch or so
above ground-level. With the leadership of Cllr. Dave Richards
and the possibility of some friendly help, there is now a prospect
of getting the ground drained
so
that it can become more useable. More news of this at a later
date. We also thank the Brockham Bonfire Committee for a contribution
of £250 to help to improve facilities in the children's
play area.
Unwanted timber and cuttings on verges
WE BEG RESIDENTS - NOT to leave piles of unwanted
timber and, cuttings on verges (or worse -in ditches). These
are only
collected
in the
Bonfire season – that is, in October, and Mole Valley
Council employees will not remove anything unless it is in
sacks outside
houses. Brockham residents should keep an eye open for Bonfire
Committee information in this magazine much later in the year
before putting out waste.
A25 Route Study
A full study is being made
by County Highways of minor improvements needed to increase
safety along the
length of this road. Brockham Parish Council has asked
for a pedestrian
safety island where walkers cross the A25 at the northern
end of the Coach Road -this should be constructed in the
'near future'
- i.e. the 'next few months' to quote an SCC Traffic
Engineer. Reduced speed limits and quiet tarmac have also been
asked
for where the A25 crosses Brockham Lane. Residents will
know very
well
why speed reduction is needed here.
Highway Matters
Mr. Jim Dance, the SCC Highways Steward for this
area, is to have a site meeting with our Chairman
Roger
Hammond to investigate putting more 'grippable' handrails
on the Borough
Footbridge, replacing the damaged white posts at
the Strood Green 'island' and a variety of outstanding
matters -including
blocked
drainage gulleys which it was hoped would have been
cleared by mid-February.
